Vacancy for Panel Members for the Professional & Ethical Standards Panel for Thames Valley

This is an exciting opportunity to become an independent member of the Professional & Ethical Standards Panel.

About the Panel

The Professional & Ethical Standards Panel has been jointly commissioned by the Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police (TVP) and the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Thames Valley.

The Panel provides an independent and transparent forum that encourages constructive challenges over the way complaints against police officers and staff are conducted, as well as exploring professional and ethical standards issues within the Force.  This helps to ensure that TVP has clear ethical standards within the organisation and achieves the highest level of integrity and service delivery.

There are already six members of the Panel and we are now appointing a further three. The appointment will be for a four-year period. For further information please see link https://www.thamesvalley-pcc.gov.uk/pesp/

The Candidate

Could you sit on a Panel and review real misconduct cases, which are likely to cause concern within the Thames Valley community?

Could you identify learning opportunities and make recommendations from looking at police performance data?

Could you consider specific matters referred to the Panel by the Chief Constable or the PCC?

If yes, then we would like to hear from you.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and self-motivated with a good perception of professional ethics and integrity and be able to review a selection of complaints against police and critically analyse them.

Candidates are required to be over the age of 18, live or work in the Thames Valley and be able to attend meetings within the Thames Valley area during the working day. The members will be subject to a police vetting check. Serving police officers or police staff are not eligible for this role.

The successful applicant will receive training and a daily allowance including expenses for travel.  The current schedule is based on a minimum of six alternate monthly meetings per year.

The closing date for applications is 5.00pm on 21 September 2020.

Any applications received after this time may not be considered.
