Counselling Service Background

Research and Engagement

Two pieces of PCC commissioned research and two workshops with key stakeholders have been undertaken to help inform the proposed ‘Counselling Hub’ for victims of crime in Thames Valley. The commissioned research led to the following reports:-

Gell, F & Shackman, J (April 2015) Developing Capacity across the Thames Valley for Specialist Counselling for victims of crime who are refugees, asylum-seekers, vulnerable migrants, or from black and minority ethnic groups with little or no English, Produced on behalf of Refugee Resource.

Circles South East (May 2015) A Feasibility Study: A Referral and Triage Model for Victims of Crime in the Thames Valley who require Access to Counselling Services.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) has done extensive engagement with organisations involved in counselling including holding a workshop on  Monday 5th October at The Gateway, Aylesbury, 9.30 - 13.30.

The event was an opportunity for the OPCC to present proposals and draft documents for interested parties to review and for us to be further informed by your feedback.

Transitional Grant Funding for Counselling Provision

As an interim measure, while the Hub is undergoing development, the PCC for Thames Valley was keen to offer short-term funding to organisations which provide counselling to victims of crime or have referral pathways with counselling providers who have experience of supporting victims of crime.

Two rounds of grant funding have now been allocated to increase capacity and provide psychotherapeutic counselling to victims of crime until the Counselling Hub is formally established:
