Matthew Barber, Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley:
I am extremely saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On behalf of my office and colleagues in Thames Valley Police, I would like to extend deepest condolences to all members of the Royal Family and the Royal Household.
As the longest serving monarch, Her Majesty The Queen has devoted her life to serving the nation; representing the United Kingdom across the Commonwealth and around the world. Her Platinum Jubilee provided a moment in history, which brought the nation together in a celebration of her life.
Here in the Thames Valley we have had a long association with the Royal Family with Thames Valley Police officers proud to protect the royal residence in Windsor as well as policing numerous Royal events such as State Visits, Her Majesty’s 90th birthday and Royal Weddings.
This sad news today will be felt deeply. As we now enter a period of mourning however we can also feel a great sense of national pride. Her Majesty The Queen has provided a sense of unity, stability and continuity to the nation and through her extensive community and charity work has touched countless lives.
