Here you can find out about some of our Complaints and Standards Committee members
Jonathan South (Chair)
I am a Senior Lecturer and Course Lead for Police and Investigations based courses for a university. I also work as Faculty Lead for Employability and Graduate Outcomes.
Over the last 6 years I have also advised and scrutinised other universities on their course developments working on the College of Policing framework. I have taught A levels and in Further Education, I had additional responsibility of Safeguarding.
In my early career I was a Police Officer for almost 15 years working in several areas including volume crime, community policing and custody. I am currently working on course developments in Emergency Resilience.

Claire Childs
I currently work for the NHS as a senior fire safety advisor. Having previously worked for both the police and fire and rescue service I have a keen interest in public services. I am interested in the scrutiny of complaints due to my previous work and also to help ensure that policies are upheld, everyone is treated fairly, lessons are learnt and improvements are made. I am very new to the panel but have so far been very impressed with the transparency and attitude towards this type of scrutiny which will support and benefit the organisation and the public.

Tom Grant
I have lived in Buckinghamshire all my life and have strong connections to the wider Thames Valley area. I first became involved in community roles through school governance, recognising the importance of accountability and the positive difference effective oversight can make. With over 13 years’ experience in business management, consultancy and private investment across sectors including live events, IT, technology development and security, I bring skills in operational oversight, strategic planning and risk management. I am motivated by fairness, transparency and public trust, and believe these qualities are central to effective policing scrutiny.

Sarah Holding
I was born and brought up in Wales and left to study a History degree at Reading University; this was followed by a PGCE at Oxford University and 37 years working in education.
My career has been varied and interesting and I spent some of it teaching in secondary mainstream schools, some of it as a senior education officer at Buckinghamshire Council, followed by Deputy and then Headship at alternative provision. I have loved working with young people and feel privileged to have had such a range of experience.
Following retirement, I volunteered for the Witness Service, supporting prosecution witnesses and for a number of local services and now with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner. I am committed to trying to support those who, for whatever reason, are disadvantaged or disengaged and believe that those in authority must be empathetic and kind.

Ian Jenkins
With over two decades of experience in the Distribution sector, I have developed a strong understanding of logistics, operations, and service delivery. Born and raised in Oxfordshire, I have a deep appreciation the area and a longstanding interest in how public services are delivered and held to account. As someone who believes that policing should be transparent, open to scrutiny, and rooted in the needs of the communities it serves, being involved in the scrutiny of complaints handled by Thames Valley Police is important to me because it helps ensure fairness, accountability, and public trust. So far, I’ve found the experience of serving on the Complaints and Standards Committee to be both insightful and rewarding, offering a valuable learning curve and the chance to contribute meaningfully to positive change.
Anita Keeler
I am a full time ICT specialist working on implementations of ERP systems primarily but also have experience of infosec and infrastructure. I enjoy walking, gardening and crafts in my spare time.
I have lived in Milton Keynes for close to 13 years now and following a 30 year career travelling the globe for work, I want to forge bonds with my community and help to balance the expectations of the public against those applied to serving Police Officers as to how policing is conducted in the TVP area.

Anna Murphy
I live just outside Henley with my husband. I have 2 grown up daughters and 2 of the most adorable granddaughters.
I spent most of my working life in Recruitment, starting as a Permanent Recruiter for a very well known high street recruitment company. Over the years I gained experience in most areas of recruitment, the last 10 years or so working in Account Director, Project/Programme Management, Operations Director and Transformation Director roles for large Managed Services companies. I have a very keen interest in people development, relationship building and process improvement and have always placed people in the centre of my thinking and strategies. I’m hoping this will prove to be very useful in the role as a committee member.

Denise Varley
I retired from my job as a nuclear safety inspector in 2024.
I have lived in the Thames Valley since 1992, most recently in Wantage, Oxfordshire, where I volunteer as an advisor at a local charity. I hope my experience of regulating the nuclear industry will help me contribute to the work of the Complaints and Standards Committee.

Christine Zammit
I am a retired Senior Civil Servant working previously in both a Local Authority and at the centre of Government at the Cabinet Office for 38 years. This has given me a set of skills which enable me to successfully scrutinise performance and contribute to identifying improvements with an understanding of the public sector constraints.
I live in Buckinghamshire and would like to continue to support my local area to ensure residents receive a decent service from their Police force.
