Video Transcript for Thames Valley Police & Criminal Justice Plan

0:01 My name is Matthew Barber and last month I was honoured to be elected as your new Police and Crime Commissioner for Thames Valley, and today I’m publishing my Police and Criminal Justice Plan setting out my proposals to get tough on crime for safer communities.

0:15 The first of my priorities is strong local policing. Whether you live in an isolated rural community or the centre of one of our towns, neighbourhood policing really matters. Everybody across Thames Valley should have the protection they need from the police for safer communities.

0:34 Serious organised crime isn’t something that just happens in our big cities. Sadly the impacts of county lines gangs and the challenges of knife crime are felt across the Thames Valley and that’s why I’ve made it a priority in my plan.

0:51 The threat from cyber crime and fraud has become all the more apparent over the last year because of the COVID restrictions and it’s that’s why I’m focused on working with Thames Valley police as well as other organizations regionally and nationally to protect you and your family online.

1:10 We need to improve our criminal justice system and that goes beyond just policing. It’s about putting the victim
1:15 at the heart of the process and ensuring that we reduce reoffending for those coming out of our prisons.

1:25 Illegal encampments can impact on communities across Thames Valley and that’s why I’m working with the police and local authorities to ensure a firm but fair approach to dealing with the challenge.

1:40 I’m excited about delivering this plan for your community and I’m looking forward to getting out and meeting as many of you as possible across Thames Valley.
