About the Independent Trust, Assurance and Confidence (ITAC) Board
The Independent Trust, Assurance and Confidence (ITAC) Board replaces the former Independent Scrutiny and Oversight Board (ISOB), reflecting the evolution of Thames Valley Police’s approach to building public trust and confidence.
ISOB was originally established in 2022 to provide independent scrutiny of the Police Race Action Plan (PRAP), a nationally funded three‑year programme focused on addressing racial disparities in policing.
As this programme reached its conclusion, Thames Valley Police has adopted a broader, long‑term Trust and Confidence Strategy. This strategy builds on the foundations of the Race Action Plan but expands the focus beyond race alone, embedding fairness, inclusion, accountability and community engagement across all aspects of policing.
In line with this shift, the role of ISOB has developed to provide independent scrutiny of the full Trust and Confidence framework. ITAC now operates as a primary external scrutiny body, ensuring that Thames Valley Police delivers against its commitments and continues to build legitimacy and confidence with all communities.
The Board comprises independent members from across the Thames Valley who bring community insight, challenge and accountability. ITAC reviews performance, monitors progress against the strategy’s objectives, and provides constructive recommendations to both Thames Valley Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.
Through this strengthened and wider remit, ITAC supports a more transparent, consistent and community‑focused approach to scrutiny, helping ensure that policing is fair, inclusive and trusted by all.
